This course is designed to help participants recognize adult emotional responses, protective behaviors, and relational patterns as meaningful clues. Rather than asking,
“What is wrong with me?” Course 2 helps participants begin asking,
“What was this response designed to protect?”
Through this course, participants learn to listen more carefully to the language of the heart, understand the needs of the Child within, and recognize how grief, pain, protection, and unmet needs can shape present-day life.
This course is not about shaming survival responses. It is about understanding them with clarity, compassion, and care.
Who is Course 2 for?
Course 2 is for students who have completed Course 1 and are ready to go deeper into the impact of trauma, child development, protective responses, and dissociation-informed understanding.
It may be especially helpful for:
Completion of Course 1 is required.
Course 2 builds directly on the shared language developed in Course 1.
Because Course 1 introduces the Dynamic of Being Human, emotional awareness, protective responses, relational patterns, and foundational trauma-response language, participants must complete Course 1 before enrolling in Course 2.

Course 2 explores how childhood experiences, relational disruption, neglect, abuse, and overwhelming stress can shape protective responses that continue into adulthood.
Participants will better understand how the Child’s defense system may influence emotions, relationships, body responses, internal conflict, and patterns of protection.
Course 2 continues Fern & Audrey’s emphasis on the language of the heart.
Many trauma responses are meaningful communications. Emotional overwhelm, protective reactions, repeated patterns, relational disconnection, body responses, and difficult behaviors may reveal something important about pain, need, fear, grief, protection, or survival.
Course 2 helps participants slow down, listen more carefully, and consider what the Child’s defense system may have been trying to protect.
Course 2 is also designed to help helpers and support persons think more carefully about their own responses.
Walking alongside survivors requires steadiness, humility, and awareness. Helpers may experience emotional fatigue, confusion, fear, conflict, or vicarious trauma.
This course provides educational language and tools that support both survivors and those who walk alongside them.
Throughout Course 2, participants engage with true-story examples that help bring the material into real-life understanding.
These examples help participants recognize how protective responses may form, how they may continue into adult life, and how informed understanding can reduce shame and increase compassion.
